2 Nassau Police Officers Are Assaulted, Injured On The Job

Two Nassau police officers suffered serious injuries after they were assaulted by a suspect in Lynbrook on April 15.

The Nassau officers were dispatched to the Starbucks located at 839 Sunrise Highway early in the morning that Monday. Once they arrived there, they attempted to place a 23-year-old Laurelton man under arrest for criminal contempt. They were assisted by the officers from the Lynbrook Police Department.

The suspect allegedly refused to follow the Nassau officers’ orders. He reportedly attacked the officers as he resisted arrest. One policeman suffered a knee injury while another was left with hand and elbow injuries. Both officers were transported to an area hospital for additional treatment.

Police found a fake Connecticut driver’s license on the man after taking him into custody. He was ultimately charged with possession of a forged instrument.

He also faces two second-degree assault charges for injuring the arresting officers as well as one for unlawful fleeing, second-degree aggravated harassment and criminal contempt. He was scheduled to be arraigned on all charges in First District Court in Hempstead on April 16.

Some jobs are more dangerous than others. Those who work in construction, as firefighters, police officers and in other hazardous professions put their lives on the line daily to do what they love.

Almost every employer in New York is required to take out insurance coverage to cover the medical costs and lost wages for those hurt on the job. A workers’ compensation attorney can advise you of your right to recover compensation if you’ve been hurt while working for a Rockville Center employer.
